Resources for co-operatives improved at Principle 5
Principle 5 (or ‘P5’) is the Yorkshire Co-operative Resource Centre, based since 2023 at co-operative owned Aizlewood’s Mill, in Sheffield. Their website has now been extensively redesigned as a very useful access point for information about co-operatives. The site now features new Co-op Tools & Resources, online exhibition panels on local Sheffield history, a searchable index of articles from Co-op News, and free access to study notes on co-operative history, principles, ideas and politics.
They have also initiated the Co-op Maps tool, based on an idea by P5 founding member Steve Wagstaff. This is being developed as software to create diagrams of co-operative structures and networks.
A new edition of the revived Sheffield Co-operator newspaper is also available (download from the P5 website) which celebrates the 100th anniversary of the first Labour Party local administration (1926-1932, in Sheffield). This edition also looks at food co-ops, the far right, Sheffield Student Union’s new Community Hub, Mondragón workers’ co-op in Spain, and Sheffield co-operatives.
