Remembering the Victims of Hiroshima and Nagasaki

Outside City Hall, Barkers Pool, Sheffield S1 2HB

A ceremony for the 80th anniversary commemoration of the horrific atomic bombing of the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on 6 and 9 Aug 1945. 200,000 people were killed, and many more, plus their descendants, have suffered health problems as a result of the bombing. The event will also celebrate the work of Mayors for Peace and the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, with a pledge to continue to work for the total elimination of nuclear weapons, and promoting peace and justice in our city and in the world. Nuclear weapons threaten all life on earth. Imagine if we spent all that money on health, education and a sustainable future!

The Lord Mayor of Sheffield will join members of Sheffield Creative Action for Peace (SCRAP), and Sheffield Choir for Peace, in this 45-minute remembrance event which marks 9th August every year. All are welcome to attend.
